Caloundra Pickleball team scores Gold in Brisbane

Caloundra U3A Pickleball Group is letting the Brisbane Pickleball players know they are now a force to be reckoned with, having won Gold at the recent Brisbane Pickleball Open Competition.

Mary Daisley, Carol Sadler and Ken Solomons won Gold Medals while Helen Homann and Gael Ferguson won Silver. Sandee Leslie played well, but came up against some stiff opposition.

The team also made sure everyone was aware that Caloundra Indoor Stadium has the capability of playing up to 16 courts at any one time, with two raised viewing platforms. This has been made possible through the assistance of the Stadium Manager, Steve Gurr so there’s potential for a competition here!

Twelve months ago the Caloundra Group started with 25 members and now numbers 135, playing 12 courts Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 9am and 11am. Coffee and a social chat after the games is an added bonus.

Apparently, Caloundra has the most number of courts being played at one time in Queensland. The oldest playing member is 88 years young and still plays a great game. All this has been made possible by the support of U3A in purchasing a further four nets. This has enabled more people to play Pickleball and gain a lot of enjoyment while exercising. Laughter drowns out the bounce noise of the ball, which is wonderful to hear.
